Tree Removal Cost Breakdown
There is a reason we pay others to perform work that we normally don’t do ourselves. When handling tree removal there is a cost that goes with it and the majority of the time it is well worth it. As I sit here on my porch I can see 2 trees that have to be removed. By the way it is really warm to be late February being 74 degrees at 8pm. Anyway back on point.
Some of the major influences with a tree cutting service making a quote for a removal job has to do with size and location of the tree. If the tree is close to a structure as well as the size for removal. I am a firm believer that people pay for peace of mind. If you have no experience with removing trees then cutting down a tree next to your house is probably not the way to learn. You hire a good reputable landscaping company to do the work for you. Don’t let this happen:
Recently we had a very nasty series of storms come through and it caused heavy tree damage throughout our neighborhood. One of our neighbors took some heavy tree damage which actually knocked their mobile home slightly off the foundation. (Just FYI the tree was only a 1.5 foot thick southern yellow pine.) About two days after the storm here came the people looking for some quick money. They wanted $700 dollars to cut and remove the tree. Of course they tried to play on the fear of other trees could fall which brought their price up even further.
Thankfully my neighbors called me up the driveway to consult for them. After all was said and done the group of tree cutters did not perform any services and did not receive any money.
Instead I hired a guy that was insured which would cut that tree down for around $400 dollars. The sad thing is those guys were trying to save money on the tree removal cost and did it themselves. Now that little cost cutting is going run them a $3,000 or more bill.
Before we look at some additional tips to help save money for tree removal lets talk about some of the reasons why a tree needs to come down.
- The first reason is because the tree has been damaged or is dying. Don’t wait until the tree is fully dead because it may come down on it’s own and cause serious damage or injury.
- The anchor soil is not firm and has become loose. This is common with underground streams and sandy soil areas.
- The tree has a disease. There are a lot of diseases that can affect trees and can even spread. If you are unsure you may need to speak with a tree surgeon to confirm if a tree is sick and if the disease can spread.
There are some other reasons but for the most part those are the common reasons outside of landscape design.
I am fortunate enough to live in the country where there are no burn laws. Paying for a tree to be taken down is one thing but you can shave off some of the cost by doing the cleanup yourself. We normally stack the wood and use it in our fireplace or if it is a resin species we simply burn it at a camp fire. For those that are closer to the city make sure you check out your local burn laws before doing so. If you can’t burn you can stack the wood up and put a notice on craigs list about free wood. If it is a hard wood you can even sell it to local wood turners.
Bottom line is that the tree removal cost is always going to be there whether you do it or not. If you pick a company to do it then they need to make money in order to keep the company open, but remember they don’t need to get rich off of you.
Well it is getting a bit late and time to go but remember if you are going to spend the money for a tree removal service at least pick a good company that is covered by insurance and has a good reputation. Also I hope that tree removal video shows you why there is a need for professionals to do the job.
